Some pre-election sabotage attempts thwarted

TEHRAN, Feb. 28 (MNA) – Iran’s minister of intelligence has said high turnout in elections by Iranians took the world by surprise.

Seyed Mahmoud Alavi who was speaking in a press conference held after Parliament and Assembly of Experts elections on Sunday in Tehran told reporters that his forces had thwarted Takfirist sabotage acts in southeast of the country just before elections. Alavi expressed gratitude the public for political participation in elections and hoped that the ministry could work to serve the nation in par with the political epic they had succeeded.

“The fact that terrorist circles would envy the high security enjoyed by the country and would entertain launching sabotage attempts is beyond doubt; they are working on daily basis for destabilizing the country through treacherous acts of sabotage and other plots and we regularly survey their actions within as well as beyond borders to deprive them of their necessary means to achieve their objectives,” Alavi told the press.

On the terrorist sabotage attempts during and before the elections, Alavi did confirm thwarting of a number of attempts in southeast regions by Takfirist circles; “we effectively monitored the details of the operation and timely intercepted the mercenaries; I ensure the nation that all security and intelligence as well as Judiciary authorities are well coordinated to guarantee the security of this side of borders. We have now an unparalleled security arrangements on place in the Middle East, while our neighbors are grappling with the huge security and stability issues,” he emphasized.

“We warn terrorist Takfirist circles and other aspirants to acts of sabotage that our intelligence will detect and hunt you, since the security of the people is our strategic mission and an area where our forces would not spare any measure to destroy the networks of plotters,” he asserted, concluding the press conference.
